Utilities Director Jobs in New York
A Utilities Director plays a crucial role in the utilities industry, overseeing the operations of utilities services such as water, gas, electric, or wastewater departments within a city or county. They are responsible for the planning, directing, managing, and overseeing the activities and operations of the utilities department. This includes the development and implementation of policies and procedures, managing and participating in the development and administration of the department budget, and coordinating activities with other departments and outside agencies.
Notable skills and certifications a Utilities Director should have include a strong understanding of engineering principles, excellent managerial skills, a strong ability to communicate effectively, and a good understanding of regulatory affairs and public administration. Certifications like a Professional Engineer (PE) license or Certified Public Works Manager (CPWM) can be advantageous. Prior roles before becoming a Utilities Director may include Utilities Manager, City Engineer, or Public Works Director. Each of these roles provides the necessary experience in managing utilities and a deep understanding of the various technical aspects involved in the provision of such services.
