Technician Jobs in British Columbia

A Technician in the utilities industry is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of utility systems such as electricity, water, gas, and telecommunications. They perform regular inspections and testing of systems to ensure they are operating efficiently and safely, troubleshoot problems, and handle the repair or replacement of equipment. Technicians may also be responsible for reading utility meters and reporting usage information. Their work is often physically demanding, and they may have to work in challenging weather conditions and at great heights or depths.

Important skills for a Utilities Technician include problem-solving, attention to detail, mechanical skills, and physical stamina. They should also have strong knowledge of relevant safety protocols and regulations. Many employers require Technicians to hold relevant certifications, such as an Electric Power Technology certificate for those working with electrical systems. Prior to becoming a Utilities Technician, individuals may hold roles such as a Maintenance Worker, Meter Reader, or Utility Worker, all of which provide relevant experience in the industry.
